Newspaperman murdered at coast

WELL-KNOWN Walvis Bay resident Awie Brand, who was a long-time reporter and editor of the coastal newspaper, Namib Times, was murdered at his restaurant at the harbour town on Friday evening. The 58-year-old Brand was found dead early on Saturday morning in 'Die Restaurant' on Walvis Bay's 10th Road.

MISA Namibia wishes to express its shock at the brutal death of one of Namibia 's longest serving journalist-cum-businessman Awie Brand. Brand (58), who was a long-time reporter and editor of the coastal newspaper, Namib Times, was murdered at his restaurant at the harbour town on 20 June.

The Media Institute of Southern Africa Namibia Chapter was officially launched in November 1998. The Chapter is one of 11 chapters in the SADC countries that form MISA. Since its inception MISA has its focus on the need to promote free, independent and pluralistic media as envisaged in the Windhoek Declaration.
